Soup

You've grown with us for some two years
I've worked here but one more
52 and just 15
I met you at the door

Knew you'd be that special kid
With those dangerous cold eyes
Hair like Fierce Flamingos
And your saddness filled the skies

I was qualified as Father
Poet, manager and ref
But now had higher calling
Teen-soup treatment daylight chef

With you, like oh so many
the ingredients were there
Greater chefs worked all around us
I was blessed to stir the fare

Many soups have been deployed here
Alphabets both hot and cold
Bisques of all the youthful wilds
Bouillon sweet and touched by gold

For you no preconceptions
As I'm told that isn't fair
That day began a journey
For which no one could prepare

Hurt has cut you deeply here
Venting demons often will
Self assessment can be toxic
And the cure a bitter pill

You must know you've seeds of greatness
That have flown a bit off course
Not unique the inconvenience
To the children of divorce

Stand and walk the way to win
It's now you own the show
the world holds many poisons
Drawing moths into the glow

Fight only to be peaceful
Bless a world that needs your smile
Gift us with your music
Set the lights to shame with style

Never hold to liars
Life can be too short
Live within each moment
Sailing strong to every port

If today's the last you see me
As with time all things must cease
This proud old chef is smiling
To have served a masterpiece.
